Mérida

Today was a travel day for us. We had a chance to sleep in a bit as we were headed to the town of Mérida today. After our two-hour ride, we walked 10 minutes to the Roman amphitheater and theater which was built even before the Colosseum in Rome. It was an incredible place as we had a chance to learn where the word "arena" comes from in English as well as the difference between a regular theatre and amphiteatre (amphi meaning 2). Here, Jess and Paige had a chance to try out their vocal chords singing in front of various groups Twinkle, Twinkle! After our visit, we went for lunch and here is where so many of the kids started to eat the menú del día. This is a three-course meal and requires about 90 minutes to eat!! I think one of the most memorable activities was taking a trip to the supermarket. The kids had a blast buying treats and looking at all the cultural differences between our supermarkets and ones in Spain (Parents, I think you can get them to go with you to run errands now) The rest of the day the kids had a chance to take some time swimming at the pool prior to our trivia night! The teachers took 25 questions that we thought would make for good friendly competition and the kids absolutely loved it! They were not always easy, but working in teams and without the internet, the winner scored 22/25 points and they received a prize and ice-cream!
